RESEÑAS AL ALBUM "MONOLITH"
OBLIVEON – METAL AND GOTHIC MAGAZINE-GERMANY, JULIO 2009
Good for Joel with his label American Line Productions, increasingly doing releases of North,Central and South American bands, and re-releasing some albums, and thus giving a greater degree of diffusion. In the case of the second album of Bolivian band Lilith, was a damn good idea. In the Bolivian capital of La Paz, this band had already released in 2001 "The Conquering Of The Eternal Wisdom" an acclaimed debut album, and held at numerous gigs in Bolivia and Peru. Originally published in 2007 for the first time, the successor work "Monolith" was a long-waited album, and is a huge step forward, its mix of Symphonic Black Metal Doom and other influences, in no way behind European bands such as Dimmu Borgir which certainly had a big influence - and Cradle Of Filth or Katatonia, and not to hide Emperor. A somber mood - the perfect way to the mystical and occult texts, and the perfectly matched images in multipage booklet fits (Could I look at the address of the dark-haired beauty in the lyrics "Ceremony Of Blood And Lust"?). The entire album is very dynamic, and blends well with the bombastic keyboard passages, the fast furious riffing, or the powerful vocals of the frontman Christopher Fletcher. The eighth song, "Equinox," stands out somewhat from the dance show, but the track sounds somehow experimental and playful, with a hypnotic riff, while the other parts have a basic melody of European Power Metal. Since presentation and production standards are high, I see no reason not to give this album 8.5 points. 8.5 / 10 – SBR

Lilith - (2007)

DISCOGRAFIA - DISCOGRAPHY
"THE CONQUERING OF THE ETERNAL WISDOM"
2000
Tracklist:
Tears From The Crystal Moon
Towards The Limits Of Death And Passions

The Conquering Of The Eternal Wisdom Pt.2

Strange Sadness In Your Soul…
Last Mirror (Instrumental)
THE CONQUERING OF THE ETERNAL WISDOM
In the middle of 2000, enough songs for the recording of their debut album were already made, and they recorded their brilliant debut album called "The Conquering of the Eternal Wisdom" between July and August of 2000. This work is a brand of Black/Doom Metal, with a lot of feeling and occult poetry……You can find desolated passages, infernal gates to hell, dark environments and cold mist from the Ancient Titicaca Lake….
Their debut CD "The Conquering of the Eternal Wisdom" was recorded and produced entirely for the band, with help of nobody, the sound is of excellent quality, as well as the artwork (Beautiful pictures showing darkness falling down, the Ancient Titicaca Lake, The Inca Trail (Takesi), desolated Sun and Moon Islands, and Uyuni´s Salar), the cover and the booklet of 12 pages is in full-color, with band`s photo, professional logo, lyrics, etc.
The drums were recorded at OMNISON Studios (La Paz - Bolivia) by Carlos Huancaña, and masterized by Boris (Keyboards), the rest of the instruments were recorded at THE WOLF` s LAIR Studios, owned by Boris (keyboards). All the mix and masterization were made by Boris and LILITH. It was hard to the band to produce entirely this CD. It is a quite technical work, fast and at the same time melodic, a masterpiece of Black/ Doom Metal.
In the beginning of 2001 they went to a tour in Peru, touching with their mystic music some Peruvian towns, after this the band gained a good reputation for their live shows, those energy-charged and dark concerts….
After a long time (June of 2002) the CD debut was profesionally reedited (finally) by American Line Productions (Mexico) and Infernum Records (Bolivia), 1000 copies for the entire world, so they are distributing the CD in all America, Europe, Asia, etc.
This reedition obtained good revisions in fanzines, magazines and labels around the world, showing that in South America exist many good bands. The band entered in Mp3.com and showed that in Bolivia the occult arts are present. Aproximately 1000 listeners have downloaded the 3 most required songs of their debut CD: The Conquering…..Pt.II, Confessions, and Strange Sadness in your Soul. Of course in Mp3 format.

Lilith - The Conquering Of The Eternal Wisdom
PUNTAJE: 7,5/ 10 - Bolivia – 2001
Now look here, we have another premiere on these pages: LILITH, the first ever band from Bolivia to get a review from out mad bunch! Melodic Black Metal it says in the info and fearing the worst, I braced myself, just to get surprised. Very positively surprised, I may add!
Sure, the production is not the best, but if you see that Bolivia is not exactly known for its high tech studios and stuff, this is something I won't hold against them as much as if they were from Western Europe or North America. But musically this La Paz-based quintet surprises with a very variable form of Melodic Black, in more ways than one, which is not the pinnacle of the genre, but shows some true potential that I for some reason would not have expected.
I know, of late many of my reviews deal with expectations I had and that did not "come true", but where the reality was different. Well, what should I do? I can only tell you folks what the CDs do to me, heh. Anyways, LILITH mostly use the typical Black Metal voice, but they also bring in some more or less spoken word passages, which mostly coincide with calmer breakdowns in their songs, which altogether brings us a really nice sense for dynamics and some traditional Metal riffing, as in "Towards The Limits Of Death And Passions" comes surprising, but fits very well indeed!
The two-part title track "The Conquering Of The Eternal Wisdom" also brings us a nice dynamic mix of blasting and calmer passages, while "Strange Sadness In Your Soul…" not only features some excellent traditional riffing and double bass, but also for the first time the clean vocals of guitarist Pedro Ascarrunz Brinati, which adds very nicely, before the quiet piano instrumental "Last Mirror" lets the album flow to an end…
Surely there are better bands in the genre, bands with more experience, with a higher budget and all. BUT… LILITH's debut is a refreshing album, which does not only follow the beaten path, but allows itself to stray at least a bit, bringing in calmer breakdowns, a little clean voice, interesting arrangements and all, which to me is something that many of the bands from the Metal-wise more populated and more acknowledged regions cannot claim and that is something that gives this quintet from Bolivia a big plus with me!
